Key takeaways

  • ✓Partners pay only for new customers who complete every step through your link.
  • ✓Most rejections come from existing customers, incomplete KYC and broken link journeys.
  • ✓Explain the steps clearly before your friend starts.

A rejected lead means the partner decided the application didn't meet the offer's conditions. It's frustrating, but most rejections are avoidable. Here are the seven we see most often.

1. Your friend is already a customer

Almost every offer is for new-to-partner customers only. If your friend already has an account, card or app login with that brand, the partner won't count it — even if they apply again through your link. Ask first.

2. The application wasn't completed

Many offers have more than one step: account opened and video KYC, or card approved and first transaction. If your friend stops halfway, the lead stays pending and eventually gets rejected. Check the offer's ‘Earn at every step’ section and explain it upfront.

Tracking works when your friend opens your link and completes the journey in the same browser or app. Switching devices, downloading the app separately from the store, or clearing cookies in between can break attribution.

4. They didn't meet the eligibility rules

Credit cards and loans depend on age, income and credit history. If the partner declines the application, the lead is rejected. Share credit products with people who are likely to qualify — salaried friends with a good repayment history, for example.

5. Duplicate or repeated details

The same phone number, PAN or email appearing across multiple applications is a red flag. Partners reject duplicates automatically.

6. Self-referral

Applying through your own link with your own details — or a family member's details on your phone — is not allowed. These leads are rejected and may lead to account action.

7. The product was cancelled

If someone cancels a policy during the free-look period, closes an account immediately, or returns a card, the partner may reverse an approved lead.

The habit that fixes most of this

Before sharing, spend thirty seconds explaining three things: what they get, the steps they need to finish, and that the offer is only for new customers. People appreciate the clarity, and your approval rate will thank you.
